<description>I agree with everything you&#039;ve said. Another way I&#039;ve found to connect to potential members is through our Mentorship program. It allows me to really focus on one or two freshmen or sophomores and gives me even more of a reason to talk to them. I instinctively act very motherly--I like to cook for or take care of my mentees. I&#039;ll invite them over for cookies or go out of my way to help them out. This forges a really strong connection!

Also, when meeting new people at socials, it&#039;s very important to have a smile on your face because during the times when you&#039;re not approaching people, you&#039;ll want them to approach you. Smiling and looking open will definitely make others feel welcome and at ease.

<description>One way SWE-UCLA attracts and retains members is during our annual Evening with Industry. We have two student prices: one for SWE members and one for non-members. When non-members come to sign up, we highly encourage them to join SWE, especially since the two prices tend to have about a $5 difference. We also take the time to explain other perks to being a SWE member and other instances where they might make up the $20 cost of membership (mentorship events, scholarships...etc). It is a guaranteed way to increase membership!

		<description>Greetings from the Beach,

At CSULB we have been experiencing a lot of growth. Last year we went from having around 12 people attend our meetings in the fall semester to having about 24 people in the spring. Then yesterday at our first general body meeting of the fall semester we had 45 people attend! This year we participated in the campus wide week of welcome club fair as well as asking our college to send out mass email to all the engineering students. Not to mention talking to people in all our engineering classes. But all our efforts seemed to have paid off. We are super excited to grow as a collegiate section and with more active members we hope we can hold more and improve our events. But our recruitment efforts are still not over this Saturday we will be participating in the college of engineering freshmen welcome day which will introduce the new engineering students to the dean as well as faculty and the student organizations on campus. After the event held on campus Saturday all the engineering organizations are getting together for a beach bonfire hosted by SWE. We hope the bonfire will act as a further recruitment and retention activity as well as a social networking activity with all the other engineering organizations on campus. We hope everyone else’s recruitment activities go well!

Sincerely,
