November Hot Topic: Involvement Beyond Your Collegiate Section

As many of you saw during the Region B Meeting at Annual Conference last weekend, there are several opportunities available for leadership outside of your collegiate section. Under our FAQs: Regional Organization, you can get a quick recap of many of the positions at a regional level. We went over each position in detail at the conference, and if you would like to request a copy of the power point we showed, please e-mail me at rcce-b@swe.org. A list of important deadlines for applications/voting is below. Each president of the sections gets to vote for the officer they feel would best represent region B, so all the more reason to get to know the girls in your nearby sections!

Call for Applicants: Tuesday, Jan 18
Applications Due: Friday, Feb 4
Candidates Presented: Monday, Mar 7
Voting Begins: Monday, Mar 7
Voting Ends: Thursday, Mar 31
Winners Announced: Monday, Apr 4

Being a region officer has been an amazing opportunity for me personally as it has allowed me to grow professionally and socially within the wonderland that is engineering. Not only do I feel a lot closer to my SWE-sters, but I feel much more prepared as a leader not only for positions within my section of SWE, but in academic projects, and in whatever challenges my future holds for me. Being a regional officer awards you with the opportunity to attend Collegiate Leadership Forum, which is a great chance to learn from our older, wiser SWE-sters and get to know your peers. There are some amazing workshops, great speakers, insightful best practices swaps, and to top it all off, some great dance parties.

If being a region officer isn’t for you – not all is lost! There are plenty of other ways to get involved outside of your collegiate section. There are committees to be joined, competitions to participate in, and conferences to attend.

If any of my Region B-ers has any questions about these other ways to get involved, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me with the same e-mail address listed above. DON’T MISS OUT!
