CSULB SWE’s 10th annual Women Engineers @ the Beach Day was on Friday, October 9th and it was a huge success. Led by our Outreach Chair, Ijya Karki, nearly 200 girls from local high schools had the opportunity to experience engineering through a series of workshops and presentations. President Jane Conoley spoke to the girls about the importance of pursuing higher educaton. Our keynote speaker, Nicole Cadreau, a power systems planner at Southern California Edison, spoke words of wisdom to the high school students, leaving them with her “five keys to success.” In preparation for the event, our Outreach Chair assigned all officers specific tasks; for example, during lunch, we offered unique engineering activities for the girls from other engineering clubs that desired to join. Overall, we were able to gather advisors, SWE members and volunteers to contribute to the event.
