Recap of Our Region Collegiate Meeting at the ABJ Conference

In case you missed out, here’s a recap of our Region Collegiate Meeting at the ABJ Conference in Seattle! Over 100 members were in attendance!

Region Goals

  • Make the new SWE logo more uniform
  • Have every section attend at least one conference, either annual or region
  • Have every section hold at least 3 outreach events using the outreach tool
  • SWENext – talk to 10 people, for anyone 13-18 years old
  • Have all reports in on-time (points will be awarded)

Funding Proposal Schools

The following colleges will be receiving $140:

  • Cal Poly Pomona
  • Cal State Fullerton
  • University of Nevada, Las Vegas

  • New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
  • University of California, San Diego
  • Weber State University

SWE Reporting

May 1: Section/CIG dashboard reports are due to RCR using PowerPoint template

June 30: Annual report due to society headquarters

July 31: Financial report due to society headquarters

Note: 1) Only President & Treasurer can submit these forms, and 2) We will be discontinuing paper checks from Society and will be transitioning to direct bank deposit.

Section Good Standing Requirements

  • 10 paid members (chartering requires that only 50% must be female engineering students)
  • President and Treasurer paid members
  • Counselor
  • Current by-laws
  • Annual and financial reports submitted

Keep in mind:

  • Sections receive a rebate for each paid member
  • Vote in RCR, RCCE, RCS, and Collegiate Director elections
  • Can be deactivated if persistently non-compliant

Collegiate Membership

  • Annual Collegiate Membership = $20/year
  • Collegiate-to-Career (C2C) Membership: one-time payment of $50; covers entire collegiate career and 1st year as a professional SWE member; great deal if you will be in school for at least 2 more years

Region Collegiate Elections

  • Positions: RCR, RCCE, and RCS
  • Voting on March 15-31
  • Collegiate section presidents vote on behalf of section for Region collegiate positions along with Collegiate Director
  • New for FY17 Elections: Ballots will link to Region webpages for candidate profile information

SWE Future Leader (SWEFL)

  • A SWEFL is a collegiate member with no fewer than 2
    years left of a current degree program (freshman or
    sophomore for undergrad or 1st/2nd year grad student
    pursuing a PhD) who demonstrates outstanding potential
    for future leadership in SWE
  • SWEFLs are invited to take part in the Collegiate
    Leadership Institute (CLI) held as part of the Annual
    Conference for leadership training experience
  • Participate in a SWEFL mentoring program
  • Nomination process occurs in April

Scholarships

  • Range from $1,000 to $15,000
  • Some annually renewable

  • For undergraduate and graduate students, applications are closed and scholarships will be awarded in May.
  • For incoming freshmen, applications will be open March 1-May 15 and scholarships will be awarded in July.
  • In 2015, SWE disbursed over 230 new and renewed scholarships
    valued at over $660,000!
