The 39th Annual Evening with Industry event hosted by SWE-UCLA was held on Thursday, January 28th in the beautiful Carnesale Commons. EWI is the flagship networking event of the chapter, and this year it was the largest event to date with over 260 students and 35 companies attending. This event was broken up into three parts. The evening started with Networking Over Appetizers, in which company representatives and students mingled over drinks and appetizers. Students were able to connect with company representatives in a more casual setting.
The next part was a three-course banquet-style meal accompanied by speeches from the Chapter President Marina Dannecker, the Dean of the Henri Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science Jayathi Murthy, and the keynote speaker Dr. Christine Lee from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This portion allowed students to talk to a single company’s representatives in a more intimate setting as well as listen to engaging speakers.
The last part of the night consisted of a private career fair, where the students were able to visit the booths of all the attending companies. The event also included a photo booth that allowed people to pose with props. The event was a great success, with positive comments from students, company representatives and school administration. Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and hopefully some meaningful connections were made between students and industry professionals.
