This event was inspired by the hashtag that stirred social media this summer. A software developer named Isis Anchalee started this hashtag upon being told that she did not look like the typical engineer. We created a template of an Instagram post and asked students to take a photo with it with a famous Diddy Riese cookie as a reward. We asked them why diversity was important for engineering or what makes them an engineer. We gathered responses from a variety of students on campus. Many people said diversity in engineering could bring new ideas to the forefront and said they loved engineering due to its tangible nature. Included are a few examples of the photos taken over the afternoon, and the rest of the responses are on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1671735253081537.1073741835.1633874183534311&type=3. It was a huge success, and we plan on hosting this event again during our Engineering Week in Spring Quarter.
