In January, three Cal Poly SLO SWE volunteers headed to our neighboring town, Atascadero, to engage 7th and 8th grade students in hands-on activities. Christina Heller, the Science and Engineering teacher at Atascadero Middle School, coordinated with Cal Poly to bring SWE Expressing Engineering to Youngsters (SWE-EETY) into her classroom. The 7th grade classes learned about the variety of engineering majors at Cal Poly and created a miniature sundial. The 8th grade class, which had learned about different types of engineering during a previous visit, jumped right into an electrical circuit activity and game. We look forward to visiting Atascadero Middle School the year!
